The primary goal of this report is to share the perspectives, opinions and stories of people who live on, near or are connected to the Barka / Darling River and Menindee Lakes. It aims to share insights into how people are experiencing life on the interconnected, interdependent systems of the Darling River and Menindee Lakes in March 2019, and their suggestions for how the river and their communities can be brought back to life and managed in the future.

The Murray Darling Basin has been the subject of a multitude of scientific, economic, governance and other inquiries and reports.  This report does not aim to cover the same ground.  This report is built on the idea that individuals, families and communities matter, and that the people who live on the river should be listened to, and their views and opinions about how the river should be managed, should form the centre of river system management.
